Endings and beginnings

Greatfield Big Local is coming to the end of its time as a Partnership funded by the National Lottery, supported by a national company called Local Trust, and a local company, Probe Ltd on Marfleet Lane.

To mark this, we are putting together a record of the things that we have done and that you, as residents, have been part of, since Big Local was first announced in 2011.

We are also looking forward to the future, when we will be setting up as a company in our own right, managing our own bank account and writing our own funding applications to National Lottery.

This was one of the aims of the Big Local funding from National Lottery, to increase the number of applications coming from areas that have not had much funding in the past.

We will keep you updated with news of our progress on here. Return regularly to find out what is happening.

What we've done

In April 2011 £1,000,000 was announced for Greatfield from Big Lottery Funding.  Initially the project was launched by Child Dynamix at St Stephen’s, with creation of a community hub, website and social networking page for residents to input their ideas to spend the money. Greatfield was one of the first 50 areas to benefit from the Big Local Trust programme.

Since then, many wonderful ideas from residents have resulted in engaging activities to improve the estate, increase wellbeing, reduce isolation and bring prosperity.

As well as the projects illustrated on the 'What we've done' page, there have been projects to improve community space for locals - the creation of The Hub, the upgrading of both St Stephen's Neighbourhood Centre and St Hilda's with major maintenance works and revamped toilets - and provision of activities for young people including youth clubs and Guides and Brownies.

As the Locally Trusted Organisation (LTO), Probe (Hull) Ltd gives the Greatfield Big Local partnership support in managing its funds and with staffing, and offers general technical support to the partnership as a whole.

Greatfield Big Local has also provided match funding for Probe to deliver a range of services to support local people to access employment, training, and volunteering support.
