Starting businesses, work and saving money

UnLtd

UnLtd was a project which helped people start up small businesses;  several local residents benefitted from this.  One business was a radio station which is still in operation.  Others, some of which are still in business, included a gardener, bicycle repairs, window cleaning, candle and wax melts, Swap ‘n’ Shop.

Advice and grants were invaluable in getting the start-ups off the ground.

Careers and jobs

Jobfests and careers fairs helped residents become work ready and opened up opportunities.

Saving with Credit Union

cu.jpg

Greatfield Big Local partnered with Hull and East Yorkshire Credit Union (HEYCU) to help residents manage their money better and access affordable, fair credit by:

  • setting up and administering school savings clubs at three local primary schools;

  • establishing a volunteer run location where residents and organisations can access the services of the Credit Union;

  • recruiting, training and supporting a network of volunteers finance buddies who would help members of the community to learn how to manage their money more effectively;

  • providing resources to promote the services, and access to those services, of the Credit Union in the Greatfield area.

Two local schools subsequently agreed to establish the first school banks starting at the beginning of the 2015 school year.

A Christmas Savings Club was set up in January 2016 with savers benefitting from a £10 opening bonus.
